Two perspectives. One obsession with Japanese culture.
I grew up between two worlds — Tokyo summers with my grandmother, testing every skincare product in Shibuya's department stores, and American school years learning to translate Japanese style for a Western wardrobe. Now based in Brooklyn, I spend my days styling editorial shoots, reviewing J-beauty finds, and writing about the pieces I genuinely use every day. I won't recommend anything I haven't tested for at least four weeks.
Tokyo → BrooklynBorn in LA to a Kyoto family, I grew up moving between sneaker culture and my grandfather's lacquerware workshop. I studied graphic design in Osaka, came back to LA to build brands, and never stopped collecting: Japanese workwear, limited Reeboks, obscure manga, Studio Ghibli stills. Kakurega Market is where I share the finds that don't show up on mainstream radar.
Kyoto → Los Angeles
Kakurega (隠れ家) means 'hidden place' in Japanese — a secret spot that only locals know about. That's exactly what we're building here: a curated market for the Japanese brands, products, and styles that deserve more attention in the US.
From Gelato Piqué loungewear to Hada Labo skincare that outsells everything in Japan, we find the hidden gems and bring them to you — with honest, tested reviews from people who actually live in Japanese style.
Every product we recommend has been tested. Every brand we feature has earned its place here.
